Writing Tips

Start small
Welcome all forms of expression, from scribbles and pictures to simple labels. Listen as your child shares their story. As their confidence builds, their stories will naturally grow from single words into sentences

Write every day
Encourage your child to write a little bit every day. Create recipes, make signs for different rooms, keep a journal, make shopping lists, or write short notes or cards to family members. Every small writing moment matters!

Encourage them
Whether your child is drawing pictures, scribbling, labelling their drawings, or writing full sentences, celebrate their efforts! Share their excitement by displaying their work and listening to their stories. Confident writers develop through praise, not perfection.

Make writing fun
Let writing be playful! Follow your child’s interests and explore fun ways to express ideas. Use colourful pens or markers, write on fun surfaces like rice or sand, draw maps to special places, or write songs and poems about topics they enjoy. When writing feels like play, creativity and confidence will naturally bloom.
