Speaking and
Listening Tips

Talk often
Language grows through genuine conversation. Listen closely as your child shares their world and offer your own stories in return. Let them teach you about their interests or explain how to do something. Ask them their opinions or about their day and listen attentively to their responses. Share stories about your family or things that happened during the day. The more your child hears and speaks Inuktut, the better they’ll learn.

Play games
Make language learning playful! Simple games like I Spy and 20 Questions build a rich vocabulary and spark creative thinking in Inuktut. Let your child’s interests inspire new word games too!

Enjoy songs together
Dance and sing your way to language learning! Play Inuktut music, share family songs, and create playful rhymes together. These musical moments will strengthen cultural bonds and make language learning fun.

Listen to the radio or podcasts
Bond over favourite Inuktut podcasts or radio programs. These listening sessions create natural opportunities for conversation and introduce your child to new words, expressions, and different ways of speaking.

Act it out
Bring stories alive by taking turns as different characters. This brings stories to life, helps with comprehension, and will naturally build your child’s confidence in Inuktut.

Tell stories
Let storytelling spark your child’s imagination! Whether sharing family memories or creating bedtime stories, these moments will help your child build vocabulary and find their voice in Inuktut.
